I was asked by Professor Rose-marie Belle Antoine to update the look of her website.
Insofar as the original design was static html, updating was a cumbersome and expensive process. Accordingly, the setup did not allow for regular updates. Beyond this, being a static design, the various pages were easily 'broken.' The direct visual-consequence was an incoherent design. In short, the site, as it existed, lacked a mechanism for maintaining an appropriate aesthetic.
The final website was informed by a design brief which required a clean, minimalist look that would allow for easy reading; a necessity since the site would be text-heavy. On completion, the user of the site should be able to readily focus on the most important content on a given page. It was also expected to be easily navigable.
To execute the job, the Wordpress content management system was selected for its dynamism, scalability and ease of use. Inter alia, Wordpress is notable for allowing users with no web-design experience to readily edit and update the content themselves without 'breaking' the site.
